Metropolis (1927): The Sci Fi Classic Directed By Fritz Lang

A Major Influence On Blade Runner, Star Wars and any other Sci Fi Movie you care to name

DVD: 1 disc

Format: PAL

Region: 4

Rating: PG

Year of release: 1999

From the cover: Set at around the year 2,000 (then a lifetime away in the future), a mammoth city is ruled by the super-efficient industrialist John Fredersen (Alfred Abel) and, on the surface, apperas to be a utopian dream with wealthy inhabitants living in palatial apartments set in colossal glass and concrete spires. But underground it’s a different story; armies of slaves work gruelling shifts to maintain the luxurious lifestyles of their masters. The workers, a sub-human species of sluggish creatures, are led by the ’saintly’ Maria (Brigitte Helm), who urges them not to rebel but to wait patiently for the arrival of a ‘Mediator’. Frederson has kidnapped Maria and orders mad scientist, Rothwang (Rudolph Klein-Rogge), to create a robot replica to take her place. His plan is doomed when the evil mechanical Maria incites the massed workers to revolt and destroy everything in sight. Taking sixteen months to film, with a cast of 37,383, and costing over $2 million at 1920s’ prices, everything about this epic German science-fiction film, which was inspired by the towering Manhattan skyline, is gigantic. Although director Fritz Lang hated the cancel of his film, it was an instant hit with Adolf Hitler and Goebbels, who first saw it in a small German town. When they came to power in 1933, they asked Lang to make prestige pictures for the Nazi party. He packed his bags and left for Hollywood the same day. On its first releases it was a box-office flop and nearly bankrupted its financiers UFA, Germany’s largest film production company. ‘Metropolis’ is now a monument to Fritz Lang’s artistic vision and film craftsmanship; this version is the closest yet to the director’s original vision.

131: 7-17-08: Frustrations with Being Pre-T
July 17, 2008. For an lj friend, but hopefully others can benefit from it as well. Talks about the frustrations of being pre-t and my views on it.

(Zac Efron is) 17 Again
Last month, Hollywood.com visited the set of 17 Again to chat with stars Zac Efron and Michelle Trachtenberg. By Emily Christianson, Hollywood.com Staff Stopping by the set of Seventeen Again, we thought we might get to see a little action. The plan was to shoot a beach party in Santa Monica with stars Zac Efron and Michelle Trachtenberg front and center, but the strong ocean breeze blew those plans right out of the water. Luckily, Hollywood.com did catch the costars for a quick chat inside Trachtenbergs trailer, before the duo took off to film an alternate scene at an undisclosed location. Hollywood.com: We just heard the beach bonfire scene had to be postponed because of the weather. So what other fun scenes have you been working on? Michelle Trachtenberg: I felt really bad because the other night I had to slap Zac and that was really hard for me to do. There were like three takes and he was such a trooper. His face was burning red and I was like, Im sorry! He was like, Just do it. Come on! He was so funny. Zac Efron: The thing about slaps on camera is there are so many ways to do it wrong! HW: You two got to play father and daughter in this film? Thats got to be weird. MT: I call him dad. [I say things like], Good morning, dad. [Laughs] HW: Michelle, your character Maggie sounds like a total rebel. MT: Shes pretty cool. You cant see it right now but I usually have bright green extensions in or like black and blonde extensions in or burgundy ones. Shes a really fun girl Shes sort of your typical 17-year-old girl, kind of rebelling against her parents. Shes being inspired by her boyfriend, who is a rebel with a tattoo and just sort of angry at her parents, doesnt understand why theyre getting divorced and trying to go through her everyday life not caring. HW: Zac, Matthew Perry plays an older version of your character. Is it true you studied him? ZE: Yeah, a little bit. Hes got a few mannerisms, a lot of small things that I tried to incorporate I try not to do too much of it. Only at very few select moments will you see it. I think people are different as they grow older. What I wanted to play a lot with this character is watching his youth come out again, when he comes back to being 17. I didnt want to be the exact same person. HW: Have the fans been trying to mob the set at all? ZE: Sets arent the fun place you think they would be. Its kind of a bunch of ominous, big hairy grips running around with big trucks. It also doesnt look like a really fun place. Theres no giant Hey, lets have fun signs. HW: You guys are having fun right? Who is the biggest prankster on set? MT: Its me. Im probably the worst I make fun of everyone just for laughs. ZE: Thats gonna be a great quote. I can just see that in print: I make fun of everyone. MT: No. I honestly think that because I didnt have the same high school experience Ive sort of just been really odd about the fact that this entire cast really loves each other and we all give each other such fun stuff that we pick on each other. HW: What were your not-so-normal high school years like? MT: I think we wrapped Buffy when I was 17and about a week later I was on my way to film Eurotrip. I definitely was not a party girl, nothing crazy. I sat home and read books and watched Law and Order marathons [laughs]. I still do that. Its so lame! ZE: I was a very regular 17-year-old. I dont know any other way to put it. I wasnt fighting crime or anything. MT: You werent? I was. Vampires and stuff [laughs]. HW: Did you guys fit in? What kind of clothes did you wear? ZE: I used to not even care. Id literally wear pajamas to school. MT: I wore a uniform to school and I would rebel so hard against the uniform. Id wear like striped socks and platform shoes and tons and tons of necklaces. HW: Would you guys go back if you could? MT: I wouldnt. ZE: It seems, having just got out of there, I dont know if Im ready to go back. Theres already a few things that I know Id do differently but that is, in no way, gonna make me go back and relive it. HW: In a way you get to relive it one more time with the next High School Musical movie. ZE: Oh, yeah. I have to do that all over again, High School Musical 3 - that Im looking forward to. Its great. Were gonna start in a few months.

The Alex Jones Show_7/17/08:"Obama's Nazi Youth Brigade"pt1
http://www.infowars.com/?p=3417 Kurt Nimmo Infowars July 16, 2008 It appears candidate Obama, if elected, fully intends to recruit young citizens into something he calls a "national security force," apparently a large paramilitary group "just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the U.S. military. Obama made passing reference to this disturbing idea in a speech delivered in Chicago on July 2. As should be expected, the corporate media, with the exception on the Chicago Tribune, completely ignored the statement and its implications. It was picked up by the real media, that is to say the bloggers, and Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily. "If we're going to create some kind of national police force as big, powerful and well-funded as our combined U.S. military forces, isn't this rather a big deal?" asked Farah. "I thought Democrats generally believed the U.S. spent too much on the military. How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together?" Farah should know there is little to no difference between Democrats and Republicans — they both take orders from the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderbergers, David Rockefeller's globalist coterie, the Trilateral Commission, and various one-world foundations and cliques. It is no secret Obama's top advisor is Zbigniew Brzezinski, a close Rockefeller protégé, a founding member and former director of the Trilateral Commission, and a CFR member. Obama's wife, Michelle, is a member of the Chicago branch of the CFR. Big donors to the Obama campaign basically constitute a who's who of corporate and Wall Street banking interests, including JP Morgan Chase & Co., Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, and Citigroup. Disgraced former Obama advisor, James A. Johnson, former Fannie Mae CEO and consummate Washington insider, is a member of the American Friends of Bilderberg, the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations. Farah seems unwilling to make crucial differences when it comes to Democrats and Republicans, but in this instance we can forgive, at least for the moment, because he is asking all the right questions. "Are we talking about creating a police state here?" he asked in a July 15 article posted on the WND website.
